Introduction
------------
BBSXIT came about as a way to keep track of how my callers were
exiting my BBS. This program reads your "activity.00x" log and
creates a bulletin showing how the callers exited. The last
caller to drop carrier has his/her name highlighted for all to
see. I also copy this bulletin over to my display area and rename
it to Hello4.BBS. If you do this be sure it is the LAST Hellox.BBS
as it has no "Pause" control and will just scroll off screen before
the caller sees it.
What is Shareware?
------------------
Shareware is a form of distribution which gives users a chance to try
software before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
to use it, you are expected to register. Individual programs differ on
details -- some request registration while others require it, some
specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything
from the simple right to continue using the software to an updated
program with printed manual.
Registration
------------
If you find BBSXIT useful and you continue to use it after a reasonable
(30 days) trial period, you are required to make a registration payment
of $15.00 to Larry Edwards. See "REGIS.TXT" for more information.
The $15.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time.
You must treat a registered version of this software just like a book.
Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same time,
this software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved
from one computer location to another, as long as there is no possibility
of it being used in two different locations at the same time.
Commercial users of BBSXIT must register and pay for their copies of the
program within 20 days of first use or their license is withdrawn. For
site-license information, contact the author direct.
You are encouraged to pass (unregistered) copies of BBSXIT along
to your friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users will
receive a copy of the latest version of BBSXIT when they register.
Though the program is not "crippled" in anyway, this shareware version
shows an "Unregistered " status message on the Main Screen.
Please fill out the included registration order form (file REGIS.TXT)
and send in your registration today. You can send REGIS.TXT to your
printer by typing:
"COPY REGIS.TXT PRN" (without the quotes)
and then pressing ENTER while at the MS-DOS prompt.
What Do I Get for Registering, and Why Should I?
------------------------------------------------
Here are some reasons why you should register:
o You can pick up a registered copy of the program by calling my BBS,
with your name shown as being registered. When a new version comes
out you can download a registered copy from my BBS.
o You get a LIFETIME license, meaning you're entitled to all future
versions/upgrades of BBSXIT.
o You get unlimited technical support via surface mail or electronic
mail.
o You have the author's ear when it comes to suggesting new features
and capabilities.
o You help increase competition in the software industry by keeping
prices low (shareware doesn't rely on expensive advertising).
o Finally, you can be proud of the honesty and integrity you've shown
in registering the program and having participated in the Shareware
revolution.
Updating from V1.0
------------------
Simply copy the new "BBSXIT.EXE" over your old one.
Installation and Operation
--------------------------
This is very simple, extract "BBSXIT.EXE" into the WILDCAT home
directory, that is the same one that has your ACTIVITY.001 file.
Now comes the hard part, the operation<G>. You will need to call
the program with a couple of parameters, here is an example:
BBSXIT ACTIVITY.001 C:\WC30\BULL\BULL11.BBS
Program name, followed by the name of the log to read, followed by
the PATH and NAME of the OUTPUT FILE. That is it! It will now read
the specified log and create the bulletin named, in the location you
want it. If you do not want it as a Bulletin you can just tell it
so in the last line and it will create any other file you want like
a Hello#.BBS.
Now I get real fancy by using it in 2 places (it didn't start out for
this use but what the heck!). Once I have the bulletin created I copy
it over to my display area as the LAST Hello#.BBS. IT MUST BE THE VERY
LAST Hello# Screen, as it has no "pause" control and if you use it at
any other spot it will just scroll off the screen.
I have included a bulletin called "Sample.BBS". You can use the "Catcolor"
program to view this bulletin.
I call BBSXIT as part of my nightly event, I have the following lines in
my "Daily.Bat" file:
C:
CD\WC30
CALL BBSXIT ACTIVITY.001 C:\WC30\BULL\BULL11.BBS
CD\WC30\BULL
COPY BULL11.BBS C:\WC30\DISP\HELLO4.BBS
CD\WC30
I use the DOS "CALL" function so I know when a program is finished DOS
will return control back to the batch file to continue on with the next
command. The last 3 lines are how I create a HELLO#.BBS by copying the
bulletin to the area I want and renaming it. Once again make it your
LAST HELLO#.BBS.
If "BBSXIT" encounters any problems it will write it to the screen, plus
make a file called "BBSXIT.ERR" with a notation of the problem.
"BBSXIT" should be a very well behaved program and if it does encounter
any problems it will simply return control back to the calling batch file,
so the BBS doesn't get hung up.

Final Remarks
-------------
Many Thanks to my Wife, Evelyn, for her Friendship, Love, and Support in
every aspect of my life. Especially my addiction to computer keyboards.
I've made every effort to provide a safe and stable program, BUT...
If you find errors or additions, please let me know.
NOTE: Your registration and support for this program will enable me to
continue to develop BBSXIT and add other valuable features in future
versions.
I'd appreciate bug reports, new feature requests, comments, performance
problems, constructive criticism, suggestions, additions.
